Kenny Benge

Kenny has served with InterVarsity for three years, and has over 20 years of ministry experience.  Kenny grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.  Farmlands and oil fields provided the context for his early years and stimulated his curiosity for his hobbies such as rock collecting, chemistry, birds and geography.  It was in his native Oklahoma that his love for the outdoors began.  His spiritual journey began in this small community centered around family and church.

He graduated in 1980 from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and worked in the petroleum industry before entering vocational ministry.  His vocational ministry experience prior to InterVarsity  included undergraduate campus ministry, men’s discipleship, and overseeing adult discipleship on staff at a local church. He completed the Master of Divinity at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, with a concentration in Church History.

Kenny currently serves as Team Leader for InterVarsity’s Graduate and Faculty Ministry at Vanderbilt University, and has a direct ministry role working at the Owen School of Management.

Most of the experiences above were learned with the love and encouragement of his wife of twenty-one years, Laura.  She has contributed greatly to his learning process about life and relationships.  Together they enjoy and cherish their four children: Seth (19), Will (17), Betsy (15), and Ted (13).  He loves being in the outdoors, is an avid “birder” (a serious bird-watcher), loves golf, and reads novels (favorite authors: Wallace Stegner, Flannery O’Connor, Annie Dillard, Wendell Berry, P.D. James, Gerald Manley Hopkins, and Eugene Peterson).  He and his family live in Franklin, Tennessee and attend Saint Bartholomew’s Church.
