Fall 2006
Dear friends and family,
While listening to the
beginning of the recent FIU vs. UM football game, we thought, “We
can’t lose tonight. No matter what happens, we will be happy!”
We work with both universities; we have children at both universities.
Whoever wins, we win. Nothing could go wrong, right? This time it seems
that we all lost, though, with the violence exhibited by both teams.
Fortunately, not all is bad news. There are good things happening at the
university. Your partnership with us through prayer and support is
making it happen.

Since
the first Urbana convention in 1946, InterVarsity has called
every student generation to participate in God's mission.
Urbana
06: It matters what you do with your life. At
Urbana 06, over 25,000 people will gather to worship God and
hear how he is using people to accomplish his purposes
throughout the world. |
Our assignment at Urbana will
be in the new track Open for Business, geared for business students and
professionals. It will host 1,500 attendees. We are praying for the formation
of new groups at the business schools in our universities. This will be a
great opportunity for service and training for us.

There
is a new law student group at Florida International University this semester.
This is a very promising group that began forming last year and,
though small, it was still able to do some significant campus outreach,
involving faculty. We are blessed to have faculty support in this group
also.

“Law
as a calling --vocation -- to love one’s neighbor, rather than
as a summons to amoral gunslinging on behalf of various
clients.”

More
law student news: Before coming to Miami this fall, Darara Gubo taught law at the college
level in Ethiopia. He is at St.
Thomas University to study law in international human rights. He has
seen difficult times in his home country, yet he continues to find his
true hope in Christ. Meeting with him has been refreshing and
encouraging. He comes from a committed Christian family where his father
is a pastor and a convert from Islam. While in the South Florida, he has
already introduced two people to the Lord. Darara will be one of the
students attending the Urbana ‘06 missions conference in December.
The Asian scholars’ fellowships at FIU
and UM are going strong. These groups have faculty
support. Recently, we celebrated the Autumn
Moon Festival at our home.
This is not unlike our Thanksgiving. It is a time for family to gather
and share a traditional meal. We had a great time of celebration, making
dumplings and eating delicious Chinese food. Our time included worship
and Bible study and it ended eating moon cakes. We had over 30 adults
(plus children). Most of us participated in making the traditional
dumplings. We have already seen three Asian scholars give their hearts
to the Lord this semester.
| Funding: As you know, we do not ask students to support our ministry.
You
are the ones that back this operation, by the leading of the Lord. If
the Lord has prospered you, consider increasing your involvement in
this critical ministry. We depend on your commitment.
|
You have been a great encouragement to our lives and
ministry.
What
is taking place is due to your faithfulness.
Praise be to God!
