Date & Time:

Saturday, March 4, 2006
9:00 A.M. – 5:30 P.M.

Location: The Christian Study Center of Gainesville, 112 NW 16th Street, Gainesville, FL (directions available via MapQuest)

Program Purpose and Summary:

The modern research university often casts the search for knowledge in terms of effectiveness.  Knowledge increasingly is measured in terms of the usefulness it brings, or the power it bestow.  Our theme, Knowing God, Knowing Creation assumes the Christian scholar cannot be content with that.

Our theme also assumes that there is no ultimate knowledge or creativity without the knowledge of God, and a principle way we know Him is in what He has made.  We also reflect His image in what we make. This conference is for graduate students and faculty who want to explore this theme and how it might apply to their own discipline.

Ken Myers will sound out the theme in two plenary addresses. Faculty and graduate student panelists will then reflect on and develop the theme and interact with attendees in an open question and answer format.

Between and after these sessions Interdisciplinary small groups will discuss the biblical foundations and practical implications of our theme, while fostering community among our participants. Finally, this colloquium is a great opportunity to meet Christian colleagues.
