Program Purpose
and Summary:
The Great Commission is Christ’s call for His Church to preach the
gospel to the whole world. Christians
who are part of the academy must respond to Christ’s call in a uniquely
challenging and often hostile environment.
The question then is how does a Christian fully engage in
university life, and live in obedience to the Great Commission?
Dr. Terry Morrison will lead off the conference as we seek together
answers to this dilemma. He brings with him over forty years of practical
experience in wrestling with this question, including eleven years as a
Christian Chemistry professor and thirty years on staff with InterVarsity
Christian Fellowship. Following
Dr. Morrison’s plenary address a panel of graduate students and faculty
will lead all conference attendees in response to his remarks. Interdisciplinary small groups will meet for discussion as
well.

PLENARY SPEAKER: Dr. Terry Morrison -
Director Emeritus, Faculty Ministries, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Terry grew up in a Christian home
and gave his life over to Jesus’ lordship the summer before entering the
University of Pittsburgh where he earned his B.S in Chemistry in 1958.
Terry went on to a vibrant career as a Chemistry professor, earning
his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from Syracuse University in 1967.
During his academic career Terry earned membership in the Sigma Xi
and Phi Kappa Phi Science honoraries, published in “Inorganica Chimica
Acta” and other journals, and served as Full Professor of Inorganic
Chemistry at Butler University.
Terry has been active with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship since his
undergraduate days, and his love for the ministry of the gospel on campus
led him from the security of a tenured professorship to a ministry with
InterVarsity that is still going strong after more than thirty years.
For fourteen years Terry was director of Faculty Ministries for
InterVarsity, a vocation he continues to follow even in retirement.
