Dr. Black holds the PhD in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her expertise and experience in her chosen field are both academic and practical. As a teacher, she has taught courses in political science at both Franklin and Marshall and Wheaton Colleges. As a scholar, her publications include Of Little Faith: The Politics of George Bush’s Faith-Based Proposals, co-authored with Doug Koopman and David Ryden, as well as the singly-authored For the Sake of the Children: Reconstructing American Divorce Policy. Currently she is working on From Inspiration to Legislation: How an Idea Becomes a Bill, to be published by Prentice Hall next year. As a teacher, she has taught classes on Media and Public Opinion and Campaigns and Elections, to name just two. Beyond the classroom, Dr. Black served as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow during the 2000-2001 academic year, serving on the staff of Rep. Melissa A. Hart. Dr. Black is an active leader at the intersection of Christian faith and serious scholarship both within and beyond her field. She is a member of both the American Political Science Association and Christians in Political Science, and recently became national chair of the interdisciplinary Coalition of Christian Scholarly Societies. A native Texan, Dr. Black is active in her local church where she serves as a Stephen Minister, helps lead a young adults fellowship group, and participates in a women’s Bible study. She numbers, among other passions, football and travel.
